'Don't be a tourist'

Here is another commercial from Olympus and Kevin Spacey. In this one we are playfully introduced to the idea of not taking thousands of pictures and instead just taking a select few that really mean something. What I like about these adverts is that for me they are subtly questioning the way we take and think about digital photography, almost as if it is asking us to think about digital as we would when shooting analogue.

I strongly recommend checking out the rest of the commercials here which, in my opinion, are fresh and a delight to watch.

'I don't want to be the camera guy'

In a new series of eye catching and beautifully shot commercials actor Kevin Spacey reveals how he doesn't want to be 'the camera guy'. You and I both Mr Spacey, you and I both.

David Gray, live.

Sat with 15 minutes before David Gray takes to the stage and I realise that I am totally, utterly absorbed by music. Perhaps my biggest influence on my work and my life is the pleasure and visuals I get from listening and seeing music being created. As always the Birmingham Syphony Hall has the perfect acoustics and the support, a beautiful voiced folk singer John Smith, was simply outstanding. I am so engrossed that when the music stops it is as though I can feel my brain tingle. It is a fantastic feeling to watch somebody create something from nothing right before your eyes.
10 minutes left now and the subtle notes from the sound check crew are distracting me from writing. My legs are shaking and my face is flustered. It's obvious that it is now time to enjoy the show.

The lie

I love it when I hear people say they hate liars. I hear it so much and in so many contexts but how we can hate liars and the lie when everything we deal in is fiction and false. As photographers we should be aware of how we can use the lie to our artistic advantage. Many of us have used lies for our own advantage in some way or another (although many will never openly admit it, especially those who condem 'liars'). The media, everyday life and our thoughts are saturated with lies and other peoples truths. I say don't condem the liar, I say thank them for going through the effort of creation. I say celebrate the liar and realise the importance of the lie.
