Dear Photography

I don't think she understands the sacrifices that I made
Maybe if this bitch had acted right I would've stayed
But i've already wasted over half of my life I would've laid
Down and died for you I no longer cry for you
No more pain bitch you
Took me for granted took my heart and ran it straight into the planet
Into the dirt I can no longer stand it
Now my respect I demand it
I'm a take control of this relationship
Command it, and i'm a be the boss of you now god damnit
And what I mean is that I will no longer let you control me
So you better hear me out this much you owe me
I gave up my life for you, totally devoted to you while ive stayed
Paved for all the way this is how I fucking get repaid
Look at how I dress fucking baggy sweats, go to work a mess
Always in a rush to get back to you I aint heard you yet
Not even once say you apreciate me I deserve respect
Ive done my best to give you nothing less than perfectness
And I know that if I end this i'll no longer have nothing left
But you keep treating me like a staircase its time to fucking step
And I wont be coming back so dont hold your fucking breath
You know what you've done no need to go in depth
I told you, you'd be sorry if I fucking left
Id laugh while you wept
Hows it feel now, yeah, funny aint it, you neglected me
Did me a favor though my spirit free youve set
But a special place for you in my heart I have kept.

This is it. Goodbye.

Before I Forget... Simon Roberts [Influential Artist]

I've been so distant from photography again but today I feel like the time is right to begin a new project. I've been mulling around and dragging my heels trying to come up with something worth pointing my camera at and I think I may have it. But, before I forget I just need to remind myself of Simon Roberts.

Haiti Fund - Flickr/Laura Pannack

Whilst having a quick browse of the Blogger site of Laura Pannack (link) I came accross a really interesting, recent post. In her post she briefly mentions a Flickr group that has been formed to sell prints with all funds going to the Red Cross haiti Fund. I for one think this is a really heartfelt gesture by many photographers who are involved, one of which is Laura Pannack.
Her print is currently very modestly priced and I admire her as an artist for allowing her print to be sold for a good cause.

The Flickr group containing all of the charity pieces can be found here.

Source Magazine Issue 60 Autumn 2009

Just a note on anyone studying photography as art: go and buy Source magazine!
I purchased three magazines as research for my last project: Portfolio, Photoworks and Source and needless to say I will be subscribing to Source magazine from now on. The amount of useful and relevant writing is truly overwhelming. Even more so with the Free Range project now cemented as a certainty there are so many articles which will directly help the group. The two articles that I am so excited about currently are 'The Role Of The Curator' by Frits Gierstberg and 'Quotations For An Essay About Editing' by David Campany. They are helping to generate lots of fresh and vibrant ideas.

'There's not much to photos...'

'There's's not much to photos. They're no more than a thin layer of image on paper. If photos still manage to be impressive, then it is because they have an effect on the viewer; because they create a strong reaction with the images in the viewer' mind. (Maybe with the music in his head?) Photos are situated outside the viewer, but the reaction takes place right in his innermost parts. This reaction depends on his life, his memories, his nature and his 'vibrations'.'
An extract from '37 Notes on Interesting Lies' by Johan de Vos. The notes are a real interesting read, many of the points made are things that I have at some time spent an evening thinking about. There are several observations which should make image makers question their motives and how the work is percieved to a wider audience.

I can already feel the influence the essay has over my thought process. Many of the issues are an active part of my research process already but to have someone else write about these issues brings them to the forefront of my mind.

SURF Burton College @ Free Range - An Open Message

'The new group dedicated directly to those who are involved with the Burton College 2010 Free Range Show.

We have decided a theme for the entire collective works, after a group discussion we agreed that 'Catalogue' would allow each of us creative freedom to produce individual work that we were passionate about. All the group asks is that the word 'Catalogue' is used in the title of your work. So if you like taking photos of trees then perhaps call it 'The Catalogue of Amazing Pine Wood' or simply 'Tree Catalogue'...

Free Range - tentative title

After a group of us got together to discuss logistics we decided that the exhibition would need to follow a cohereant theme as to not confuse and to bind the images. We threw around words and quotes and came up with a shortlist of possible words, the two most prominent being 'dreams' and 'catalogue'.

Bernice McCarthy on Twitter

While scanning for initial research on Bernice McCarthy I stumbled upon her Twitter micro blog (twitter.com/4matters).
